Whooping cough is a notifiable disease and if suspected then PHE should be informed. Do not wait for confirmation of diagnosis.
Advice on testing should be obtained from PHE but as a general guide:
If cough <2 weeks duration then take a pernasal swab (all ages).
If cough >2 weeks duration and age >17 then send blood for pertussis serology.
If cough >2 weeks duration and age <17 then discuss with PHE.
