Clinical Guidelines

There are local guidelines on the use of Clinical Neurophysiology which give advice on appropriate (and inappropriate) referrals to their service. Referrals are triaged by the neurophysiology team an may be returned if an investigation is not felt to be indicated.

The Neurophysiology service offers the following tests:

Nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG).

Electroencephalopathy (EEG).

If clinicians are unsure about the appropriateness of a referral they are encouraged to contact one of the physiologists to discuss a case:

Dr Nick Kane Tel: 0117 4141050 (Tuesday and Thursday) or email:

Dr Agyepong Oware Tel: 0117 4141050 (Monday & Friday) or email:

Dr Sabine Klepsch Tel: 0117 4141050 (Wednesday and Thursday) or email

Nerve conduction studies at NBT can now be accessed through e-Referral (under Diagnostic Physiological Measurement - Neurophysiology-Nerve Conduction Studies).

Nerve conduction studies at UHB are now accessible via ICE (search on 'neurophysiology' to bring up referral form)
