Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) Pathway

Service Overview

One stop rapid access clinics for the assessment of suspected TIAs are available at North Bristol NHS Trust, Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital.

Referral Guidance

Patients must be referred using the BNSSG One Stop TIA Referral Form (word doc)  or via ICE.

For all suspected TIA patients give 300mg of aspirin unless contraindicated or on Warfarin and tell patients not to drive.

ABCD2 score section of referral form must be completed.

Red Flags

If symptoms or signs persist at time of presentation then treat as suspected stroke and admit patient to local ED as an emergency (999).
