Neuro-ophthalmology

Overview

A neuro-ophthalmology service is available at the Eye Hospital, UHB.

Conditions treated:

  • Optic neuropathy
  • Idiopathic intracranial hypertension
  • Cranial nerve palsy (optic, third, fourth and sixth)
  • Myasthenia gravis
  • Skull base tumours
  • Pituitary adenoma
  • Nystagmus
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Anisocoria
  • Neurosarcoidosis
  • Supranuclear gaze palsy
  • Posterior cortical atrophy
  • Extraocular myopathy (e.g. CPEO, myotonia)

Exclusions:

  • Isolated red desturation
  • Acute onset diplopia
  • Acute visual loss
  • Papilloedema
  • Giant cell arteritis
  • Acute onset cranial nerve palsy (optic, third, fourth and sixth)

Referral

Referrals can now be made via a RAS service on eRS.
