Overview

The Physiotherapy team at St Michaels Hospital is a small team that provides a range for services for women and men who are having problems with prolapse, pelvic floor, bladder and bowel problems or pelvic pain.

Bladder and Bowel

Bladder control problems affect 3-6 million people in the UK, Physiotherapy can improve symptoms. Patients can self-refer to St Michaels Hospital for:

Stress urinary incontinence: - urine leaks out when the bladder is placed under pressure, for example sneezing, coughing or exercising.

Urge incontinence: - when urine leaks as you feel a sudden intense urge to pass urine.

Faecal incontinence affects 1.4% of the general population over 40 years although it can happen at any time in a person's life.

Pregnancy

The Women's Health Physiotherapy team provides support for women during pregnancy and after delivery.

Conditions treated include:

  • Pelvic girdle pain
  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Divarification
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Continence issues
