No local osteoporosis guidelines have been developed.  See the CKS guidelines on Osteoporosis which provides useful information on management in primary care and advice on when to refer.

There is advice on use bisphosphonates and denosumab in the BNSSG formulary

There is also BNSSG advice on Osteoporosis drug holidays

Details of the Fracture Liaison Service are available in the Care of the Elderly section of Remedy

Referral Guidance

Referrals for secondary care Osteoporosis clinics can be made to:

  • NBT via eRS.


  • UHB via eRS (RAS service) - faxed referrals no longer accepted


  • WGH via eRS General Rheumatology
